Opencart WhatsApp Alert Notification: This extension allows the admin to enable the functionality of sending alert notifications to the customer’s registered mobile number.

The admin can integrate the leading and most popular messaging service into their store with the help of Opencart WhatsApp Alert Notification.

The admin can send the notification whenever a new customer register himself, purchase any product, or is related to order status tracking, admin can create a return and send a notification for an update on the return status.

Similarly, the buyers will receive the notification whenever they register themselves, purchase a product, order status tracking, and return any product, on creating a return of their product and its return status.

  • The customers will receive notifications on their registered Whatsapp number.
  • The store owner can also set the notification message template.
  • Every time the buyers will receive a notification alert when they register themselves to the website.
  • The buyer will receive an alert message when he/she will purchase, return, or the order status is changed/updated.

Installation: Opencart WhatsApp Alert Notification

First, extract the downloaded zip file. After that, open the correct Opencart Version Folder. According to Opencart Version installed in your system.

Then, upload the admin, catalog, and system to the Opencart root directory.


After that go to System > Users > Usergroups. And then edit ‘Administrator’.

Select the shown checkboxes for both Access PermissionModify Permission and Save it.


Now navigate to Extensions > Extensions > Modules. Find Webkul Opencart Whatsapp Notification from the list. Click the Install button as visible in the screenshot below.


How to Setup the Twilio Account?

The store owners need to register themselves on Twilio to set up their accounts by undergoing the following steps.

Log In

If you already have a Twilio account, to log in enter your email id and further click over the Next button.

Sign Up

To initiate your Twilio account.

Enter your Name, Email and then set your password next click on the start your free trial button.


As a result, verification email sent to your registered email id as shown below.

Verify your email by clicking on the Confirm your Email link enclosed within the mail.


Further, you need to enter your Phone number and click on the verify button.


Then enter the verification code,

that you have received on the number provided by you and then click on the submit button.


A pop-up will appear on your screen click on Confirm button to activate your sandbox account as shown below.


WhatsApp Sandbox Configuration

To initiate working (i.e build your WhatsApp bot) in the test environment the user needs to configure his/her sandbox inbound URL.

To be able to send and receive messages from the Sandbox to the Application. The store admin needs to go to the following web page.

  • Send a message to the Twilio number with the verification code to join.

You will receive a confirmation text on your device as shown below.

  • Configure your sandbox.

Let’s say the admin site URL is 

Then In the below field WHEN A MESSAGE COMES IN the admin needs to paste the link  and click on Save. Now webhooks to this URL when a message comes in.

Note: In order to move into production using the Twilio API for WhatsApp, you need a WhatsApp Business Profile in conclusion, WhatsApp has to formally approve your account.

Generate Credentials

Just go to your Twilio project under the TRIAL dropdown menu as shown below.

On the Dashboard section under your Project Name, you can view your ACCOUNT SID and AUTH TOKEN credentials.

Module Configuration Settings

After the successful installation of the extension Opencart Whatsapp Notification. To configure the extension. Firstly, in the sidebar menu go to Extensions > Extensions > Modules.


Note: The user has to run the following command in the terminal.

composer require twilio/sdk

then click on the edit button that navigates to the below settings.

Module Status: The admin has to enable the status of the module.

Stores: The admin can choose the store for which he wants to enable the module.

Account SID: Account SID (Security Identifier) will be entered by the admin.

AUTH Token: The admin will enter the authentication token.

Twilio Whatsapp Number: Enter the Twilio Whatsapp number to send the notification.

Whatsapp Alert: The store owner can set the Whatsapp alert for the orders, registrations, and returns.


Order Add/Edit Template: The admin can set the template for order addition and edit also.

Registration Template: The registration template can also be configured by the admin.

Order Status Template: The admin can set the order status template from here.

Return Template: Here, the admin can create return templates that would be used to send out the notifications at the time of return generated by the customer. Admin can add three templates such as Return Added, Return Admin Edit, and Return Status.

The store owner can make the changes in the notification template for the registration, an order placed, an order status update, and returns.

The admin can set the message name, and message elements from his dashboard in the Add Message tab.


Order information settings regarding order messages can also be configured by the admin from the info tab.


Customer-End Workflow

The customer will receive a notification alert whenever he places an order, register himself to the store, and order tracking status-related notifications like; order shipped, order received, order packed, etc.

The customers will receive alert notifications about their order booking on their registered WhatsApp account, as shown in the below screenshots:

Order purchase notification will also appear on the customer’s WhatsApp.

Now when customers return their products they will get a WhatsApp notification again. Also, In the notification customer will get the return status message as per the below images.
