PrestaShop Biometric Web Authentication {User Guide}

PrestaShop Biometric Web Authentication module allows customers to use their biometric identity to log in to their account.

Using this module, a shop owner can offer customers to sign in to their account just by using the fingerprint sensor of the device.

To use biometric identity verification for sign-in purposes, a customer needs to register his/her biometric identity first.

After registering the biometric identity, a user will no longer need to use the conventional username & password method to sign in to the account.

Customers will be able to sign in to their account quickly & efficiently just by using the fingerprint sensor of the device.

Also, the process will make the sign-in very convenient & easy for the customers.

Note: Prestashop Biometric Web Authentication module is compatible with PrestaShop framework version 8.x.x and multi-store feature.

1. Firstly, go to the module manager in back office and click on ‘upload a module’.
2. After that, drag and drop the module file or select the file from the system.
3. In this way, the module installation will be successful.

After the successful installation of the module, a customer of the shop will be able to use the biometric verification to login.

Now, let’s see how this biometric authentication functionality will work at the end of the user.

Firstly, on opening the website, a customer will land on the home page of the shop.

Now, in order to register for the biometric authentication, a customer will need to log in/sign in to their account first.

After signing in to the account successfully, a customer will land on the customer dashboard.

Register Biometric Authentication

On the customer dashboard, a new tab i.e., Login Options is available.

Firstly, a customer will need to register the biometric authentication. This is because no biometric authentication for the customer is registered yet.

Now, to proceed further, a customer will need to click on the get started button.

Choose how to use the security key

To use the biometric authentication for signing in to the account, a customer will need to select “use this device with screen lock“.

After that, a prompt to verify the identity using the fingerprint sensor of the device will open.

On successful verification, a message will display like in the image below on the customer’s screen.

A message to notify about the successful registration of the biometric identity will also display.

Use Web Authentication to Login to the Account

On the customer sign-in page, a new button is available to use the biometric web authentication is available after the installation of the module.

Again the same prompt to verify the identity using the fingerprint sensor of the device will open at the customer’s end.

The same successful identification message will display on the customer’s screen again.

After the successful biometric identity verification, a customer will be signed in to his/her account.

In this way, a user will be able to sign in to his/her account using the biometric identity. No need to use the username & password.
