Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) is web based cloud storage service. It is an object base storage service capable of storing\/managing any amount of data. Bucket is the fundamental storage container of AWS S3.<\/p>\n

Overview<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In this blog, we will see how to :-<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Create an Amazon S3 Bucket<\/li>\n
  2. Accessibility to S3 Bucket<\/li>\n
  3. Create an IAM Policy to have access to specific Bucket<\/li>\n
  4. Create an IAM user with Access key id and Secret key<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Create an Amazon S3 Bucket<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

    You need to log on to AWS console using IAM user (with privileges enough to create an AWS S3 bucket) or as Admin.<\/p>\n

    Follow below steps to create an Amazon S3 bucket.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Go to S3 panel and Choose Create Bucket<\/strong>.\"123\"<\/li>\n
    2. Name<\/strong> your bucket and choose Region<\/strong>. Note:-<\/strong> It has to be unique globally.\u00a0\u00a0\"123\"<\/li>\n
    3. In the next Configure Options<\/strong> Page, some options regarding object versioning and logging can be set. For now just Click on Next. Note:- <\/strong>Can click on Previous<\/strong> to return to last configuration screen.\"123\"<\/li>\n
    4. Next in Set Permissions<\/strong> page,\u00a0some default precautionary settings can be changed. Keep them untouched for now and Click on Next<\/strong>.\"123\"<\/li>\n
    5. Next, you can Review all the bucket configuration. Click on Create Bucket.<\/strong>\"123\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Once the bucket is created, you can check the bucket in AWS console.<\/p>\n

      Accessibility to Buckets<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

      1.\u00a0 Private<\/strong>\u00a0Access<\/strong>:- By default, every bucket is private i.e.\u00a0the access to bucket and its resources is restricted to the Account owner and the creator of the bucket.<\/p>\n

      2.\u00a0 Public Access<\/strong>:- Follow below steps to make a Bucket completely public.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Select the specific bucket listed in Amazon S3 console and click on Edit Public access Settings<\/strong>.\"123\"<\/li>\n
      2. Dis-select the just top two options(to allow Public ACLs) and Save<\/strong>. Type “confirm<\/strong>” in new pop-up that appears.\"123\"<\/li>\n
      3. Now, click on your bucket. Click on Access Control List<\/strong>\u00a0under Permissions<\/strong> sections. Click on check box in front of “everyone<\/strong>” under Public access<\/strong>\u00a0. A new pop-up will appear where you can select the operations. Then, click on Save<\/strong>.\"123\"Now you Bucket is public.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        3.\u00a0 Restricted Access (Not Public):-\u00a0<\/strong>You can allow restricted access to your bucket by using IAM policy or Bucket Access Policy. The access can be limited to just a specific Bucket or some if not all. The IAM policy helps you control what all operations a user will\/should be able to perform on your bucket. For this, first you need to create an IAM policy that gives required access on specific buckets and attach it your IAM user. Then, the IAM user can use its Access key id and Secret key to perform operations on the specific buckets as per the IAM policy attached.\u00a0 Follow ahead to read more regarding the steps involved.<\/p>\n

        Create IAM Policy<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

        Follow below steps to create an IAM policy which would allow access to a specific S3 Bucket:-<\/p>\n

          \n
        1. \u00a0Go to the IAM console.<\/li>\n
        2. \u00a0Select Policies<\/strong> from navigation panel.<\/li>\n
        3. \u00a0Choose\u00a0 Create policy<\/strong>.
          \n\u00a0 \u00a0Note<\/strong>:- A welcome message must appear if you are creating your first policy.\u00a0 \u00a0Click on Get Started.\"123\"<\/li>\n
        4. Many options will list there. Choose to create Policy on the JSON Tab.\"123\"<\/li>\n
        5. Paste the below Content.
          \n Note:-<\/strong> Remember to Change bucket-name<\/strong> accordingly. And click on\u00a0Review Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n
          {\r\n    \"Version\": \"2012-10-17\",\r\n    \"Statement\": [\r\n        {\r\n            \"Effect\": \"Allow\",\r\n            \"Action\": [\r\n                \"s3:GetBucketLocation\",\r\n                \"s3:ListAllMyBuckets\"\r\n            ],\r\n            \"Resource\": \"*\"\r\n        },\r\n        {\r\n            \"Effect\": \"Allow\",\r\n            \"Action\": [\"s3:ListBucket\"],\r\n            \"Resource\": [\"arn:aws:s3:::mention-your-bucket-name-here\"]\r\n        },\r\n        {\r\n            \"Effect\": \"Allow\",\r\n            \"Action\": [\r\n                \"s3:PutObject\",\r\n                \"s3:GetObject\",\r\n                \"s3:DeleteObject\"\r\n            ],  \r\n            \"Resource\": [\"arn:aws:s3:::mention-your-bucket-name-here\/*\"]\r\n        }\r\n    ]\r\n  }<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
        6. Next, enter the Name<\/strong> for your policy and give an optional Description<\/strong>.\"123\"<\/li>\n
        7. Click on Create Policy<\/strong> to save the policy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          The Policy will be created.<\/p>\n
           <\/p>\n
          Create an IAM User<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
          Follow below steps to Create an IAM User and attach the above created policy.<\/p>\n
            \n
          1. \n
              \n
            1. Go to the IAM console.<\/li>\n
            2. Choose User<\/strong> from the navigation pane and choose Add User\u00a0<\/strong>option.\"123\"<\/li>\n
            3. Next, name the user and choose to allow only Programmatic Access<\/strong>. Click on Next:Permissions<\/strong>.\u00a0\"123\"<\/li>\n
            4. \u00a0In the next page, Choose Attach Existing Policy. <\/strong>Next,\u00a0search and select the above created policy by name. Proceed to add Tags<\/strong> then.\"123\"<\/li>\n
            5. Tags are optional. You can skip them for now.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                \n
              1. On the Review Page, verify the fields and proceed to Create User<\/strong>.\"123\"<\/li>\n
              2. You will get the Access Key ID and Secret key <\/strong>once the user is created.
                \n\u00a0 \u00a0Note:-<\/strong>\u00a0 Ensure to save Secret access key safely because it won’t be available afterwards.\"123\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                All Done!!<\/p>\n
                Now, use the above generated Access Key ID and Secret Access Key to access Amazon S3 Bucket.<\/p>\n
