Magento Blocks are the soul of magento template system , Any magento template system if full of block elements .<\/p>\n

What is Magento Block\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blocks are basically combination of three entities<\/p>\n

\u2605 Class<\/p>\n

\u2605 Phtml Filles<\/p>\n

\u2605 XML<\/p>\n

Here is the sample\u00a0declaration\u00a0for the block<\/p>\n

As you can see in the above block code \u00a0here the class name is inside the type<\/p>\n
Type = Php class(Mage_Webkul_Block_Slideshow) where all the function are defined which are used in phtml file or view file inside webkul\/slideshow.phtml<\/p>\n
name – is a unique identifies for this particular block<\/p>\n
<block type=\"Mage_Webkul_Block_Slideshow\" \r\nname=\"webkulslideshow\" template=\"webkul\/slideshow.phtml\"\/><\/pre>\n
template = file location for the view file<\/p>\n
Best thing with blocks are you can call those block inside cms pages or under static block of magento \u00a0. using \u00a0curly braces e.g<\/p>\n

Example :\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
suppose that i have a phtml file (magento view file new.phtml) \u00a0and i want to call this phtml file as a block \u00a0in magento default template .<\/p>\n
i have added following code on new.phtml at\u00a0app\/design\/frontend\/default\/default\/template\/Sleekaccordian<\/p>\n
<h1 style=\"border:5px solid red;\">WebKul Test Block<\/h1><\/pre>\n
now i am going to call this block using following block code from poll.xml ( location\u00a0app\/design\/frontend\/base\/default\/layout)<\/p>\n
and added the following code in poll.xml under <deafult><\/p>\n

You may change the location of the block . e.g suppose that you want to change the location of the block from left to right . so you need to change only\u00a0reference\u00a0code<\/p>\n

also suppose that if you want to change the order of the block e.g you want your block after the newsletter block , In this case magento provide before and after handlers \u00a0which we can call in our block code<\/p>\n

Another note about the type attribute, its not actually a directory\/file structure, rather, it’s a URI that is mapped with the Magento autoloader. “Core” relates back to the Mage_Core_Block_Core class (under the app\/code\/core\/Mage\/Core directory) and then the info after the slash relates to the folders inside of that directory. So type=”core\/template” resolves to this class Mage_Core_Block_Core_Template which is located at app\/code\/core\/Mage\/Core\/Block\/Template.php.
